ADHD Evaluation & Care at EverKind Pediatrics

Helping Children Thrive

Every child is unique.

Some children are naturally energetic. Some daydream. Some struggle to stay organized or

complete homework. Others have difficulty managing big emotions or focusing in school.

Sometimes these are simply part of normal childhood. Other times, they may be signs of

Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).

At EverKind Pediatrics, we believe ADHD is more than a diagnosis. It is one piece of who a

child is. Our goal is to understand the whole child, their strengths, challenges, personality,

family, school experience, and emotional well-being, so we can create a plan that helps them

thrive.

Whether your child has just begun showing signs of ADHD or has already been diagnosed,

we're here to support your family every step of the way.

What Is ADHD?

ADHD is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects the brain's executive functioning, the skills that help us pay attention, stay organized, manage emotions, remember information, and control impulses.

Children with ADHD are not lazy, unmotivated, or intentionally difficult. Many children with ADHD are also incredibly creative, curious, energetic, compassionate, and innovative.

Their brains simply work differently.

ADHD May Affect:

● Attention and concentration

● Organization

● Time management

● Emotional regulation

● Impulse control

● Hyperactivity

● Working memory

● Planning and completing tasks

Signs of ADHD

Every child is different, but common symptoms include:

Inattention

● Easily distracted

● Frequently loses items

● Difficulty following directions

● Forgetfulness

● Trouble finishing assignments

● Appears not to listen

● Makes careless mistakes

Hyperactivity

● Constant movement

● Fidgeting

● Difficulty sitting still

● Excessive talking

● Running or climbing when inappropriate

● Feeling "driven by a motor"

Impulsivity

● Interrupting others

● Difficulty waiting turns

● Acting before thinking

● Emotional outbursts

● Taking risks without considering consequences

ADHD Can Look Different

Not every child with ADHD is constantly running around.

Girls often present differently than boys and may be overlooked because they appear quiet, anxious, or simply "daydreamy."

Many children learn to mask their symptoms and work extremely hard to keep up, leading to exhaustion, frustration, anxiety, or low self-esteem.

That's why a careful evaluation is so important.

What Happens During an ADHD Evaluation?

There is no single blood test that diagnoses ADHD.

Instead, we complete a comprehensive evaluation that may include:

● Detailed medical history

● Developmental history

● Family history

● Parent interview

● Child interview (when appropriate)

● Teacher feedback

● Vanderbilt rating scales

● Review of school performance

● Screening for learning differences

● Anxiety screening

● Depression screening

● Sleep evaluation

● Medical examination when indicated

Our goal is to understand why your child is struggling, not simply to assign a diagnosis.

Conditions That Can Mimic ADHD

Many conditions can cause symptoms similar to ADHD, including:

● Anxiety

● Depression

● Sleep disorders

● Learning disabilities

● Autism spectrum disorder

● Trauma

● Hearing or vision problems

● Thyroid disorders

● Medication side effects

ADHD Treatment

Treatment is different for every child. Often the child and family benefit from a combination of treatments.

Depending on your child's needs, recommendations may include:

  • Parent Education

Helping families understand ADHD is often one of the most powerful treatments.

  • Behavioral Strategies

Practical tools for improving routines, organization, motivation, and behavior.

  • School Support

    We can help families navigate:

    ● 504 Plans

    ● Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)

    ● Classroom accommodations

    ● Teacher communication

  • Therapy

Some children benefit from counseling, behavioral therapy, executive function coaching, or

    family therapy.

  • Medication

Medication can be an effective treatment for many children with ADHD.

When medication is appropriate, we carefully discuss:

    ● Benefits

    ● Possible side effects

    ● Different medication options

    ● Monitoring

    ● Growth and blood pressure checks

    ● Ongoing follow-up

ADHD Often Travels With Other Conditions

Many children with ADHD also experience:

● Anxiety

● Depression

● Autism

● Learning disabilities

● Dyslexia

● Sensory differences

● Sleep difficulties

● Tic disorders

Recognizing these conditions helps us create a treatment plan that truly meets your child's needs.
